THE MISSION OF HOROPEDIA

The HOROPEDIA Foundation’s objective is to list the most extensive watchmaking knowledge and share it with as many people as possible. The transmission of knowledge is at the heart of this approach so that no skill can be lost in the years to come.

The technical chapter represents the most ambitious section of HOROPEDIA as the subject is vast, even infinite. This encyclopedic project includes the presentation of the base elements useful to the understanding of the watchmaking know-how; tools and machines, materials, the principles of operation of a watch, complications, the various trades…

But the approach covers other aspects of the watchmaking ecosystem, such as the presentation of the various Swiss and international watchmaking schools and soon the presentation of museums, institutions linked to watchmaking or watchmaking clubs and societies around the world.

The HOROPEDIA Foundation aims to be a federative, totally neutral and independent organization, for the benefit of the art of watchmaking in the broadest sense. The Geneva authorities have officially recognized it as the foundation of public interest. It is financed by donations.
