PIERCING SAW
It consists of a metal frame with a handle for gripping, to which a fine saw blade is attached and tightened. The saw cuts in one direction (downward), allowing, in addition to the blade’s thinness, the cutting of complex profiles in materials such as brass, steel, or precious metals.
The piercing saw is generally limited to very artisanal use. A watchmaker can cut the outline of a component from a metal plate before bringing it to its final dimensions by filing its profile.
The piercing saw is the primary tool for artisans who work on the piercing and skeletonization of movements.
