TO GILD
To gild is to apply a thin layer of gold to the surface of an object. In watchmaking today, the process is primarily done either by electroplating (galvanic) or by physical vapour deposition (PVD). Gilding may be applied to movement components (wheels, mainplates, bridges), external parts (cases, metal bracelets, dials) or even to tools (such as UV-LIGA wafers).
