THE KEY

The key is a tool used to wind and set the time on clocks and pocket watches made up to the end of the 19th century. In pocket watches, the key fits onto a square end extending from the barrel arbor for winding the watch, and usually onto another square end extending from the centre wheel’s arbor (or pinion) for setting the time.
