DECORATION AND FINISHING

Decoration and finishing are largely entirely optional and technically rarely add value to the precision but are sought after among watch enthusiasts.

It is in these works that we can recognize different qualities of watchmaking. Some go as far as decorating the hidden sides of the mechanism of their timepieces.

BEVELING

The beveling consists in decorating the parts by breaking the sharp edges of this one by angles.

THE CIRCULAR GRAINING

Circular graining consists of decorating a flat surface with a series of circles applied by a machine.

LA COTE DE GENEVE

The Geneva stripes is a machining process that consists in creating parallel waves along a defined flat surface.

Hammering is surface work that seeks to decorate areas with hammer blows.

THE SATINAGE

Satin finishing is a surface treatment that aims to create stripes aligned in a defined direction on a surface.

POLISHING

Polishing is a decoration that is used for aesthetic reasons but also for technical reasons to reduce friction for example. There are also different qualities of polishing.

SUNBURSTING

THE ENGINE-TURNING

The engine-turning (guilloché) process consists of engraving regular and repeated patterns using a specific lathe called a guilloche machine.

MICRO-PAINTING

Micropainting consists of painting the desired pattern in successive layers that reveal a painting as you go.

MOSAIC

In watchmaking, the dial is a space where different types of arts and techniques can be exercised. We can develop mosaics in various materials such as wood, stone, or other precious materials.
