PIERCING SAW

It is a metal frame fitted with a handle, into which a fine saw blade is fixed and tensioned. The cut of the saw is unidirectional (downward), which, together with the thinness of the blade, makes it possible to cut complex profiles in materials such as brass, steel or precious metals.

The piercing saw is generally limited to highly artisanal use. A watchmaker may, for example, cut out the outline of a component from a metal plate before bringing it to its final dimensions by filing its profile.

This type of saw is the principal tool of craftsmen working on the openworking and skeletonisation of movements.
