Index is a component that is found on a dial to mark a marker of the hour or minute for example.

It is generally in the form of a small line, a stick, a round, a triangle or sometimes another form. It replaces in part or in totality the indication of the hour from 1 to 12 generally represented in Roman or Arabic figures.
