TORQUE SCREWDRIVERS

The use of torque screwdrivers in the industry is quite recent (late 20th century), and their goal is to allow indexing a force of tightening (torque). Once this force is reached, they automatically release the tightening action, preventing applying too much unnecessary damaging force.

They can often adjust the direction of tightening and thus adapt to the reversed pitches that are screwed counterclockwise, something found for instance on crown wheels for example.

These screwdrivers are appreciated by the industrialists but sometimes less appreciated by the purists of the workbench who believe that the watchmaker loses some sense when he uses too sophisticated tools.
