TITANIUM
Titanium is a special and rare material that is used in high tech fields such as medical, aeronautical and weaponry. The gray color of titanium is easily recognizable compared to steel. It is also lighter and stronger.
Titanium arrived in the watch industry in the second half of the 20th century.
Titanium has a wide range of uses in watchmaking. Titanium can be used for all parts of the case such as the case middle, pushers, crown or even links and clasps. Tourbillon cages are also sometimes made of titanium. This metal is also hypoallergenic.
Advantages:
Titanium is recognized today for its multiple physical and mechanical properties, including its strength, which makes it a particularly resistant metal. It is also recognized for its biocompatibility and its low density which makes it extremely light.
Disadvantages:
Titanium being very resistant is difficult to machine and therefore involves additional costs and time compared to steel or gold for machining. Moreover, like most rare metals, it has a high price.
