GRUNGE POLISHING

Grunge polishing, or brouillage, is a preparatory operation performed alongside other decoration or fabrication processes. Its objective is to diminish the visible machining or filing marks left by previous operations.

For instance, when filing a surface, the file movements leave distinct lines aligned with the axis of the filing motion. Grunge polishing involves lightly filing the surface while continuously altering the axis of motion. This technique softens the filing marks and creates a smoother texture.

By applying grunge polishing, subsequent processes like satin finishing or polishing can be performed more efficiently, reducing time while improving the quality of the final result.
