TO ROUND OFF

A decorative technique consisting of shaping a rounded, convex surface by rocking the tool back and forth (such as a file, buff stick, or burnisher). Once the surface is shaped, it is usually hand-polished to a high finish. This type of decoration demands great dexterity and experience. Uneven performance of this operation will result in distorted mirror effects that are immediately noticeable.
