Elasticity is the property of a material or body to return to its original shape after having been subjected to a mechanical constraint (as in a mainspring). The point beyond which the material no longer returns to its initial shape is called the elastic limit. The coefficient describing the elasticity of materials is known as the modulus of elasticity, the most commonly referenced being Young’s modulus, generally expressed in GPa or MPa (Gigapascals or Megapascals).
