LumiNova was invented and patented in 1994, and replaced in 1998 by Super-LumiNova. It is a material composed of non-radioactive photoluminescent pigments. It is used as a luminescent material for reading the time in the dark, and is therefore found on many dials, hands, and bezels of diving watches.
