OUT-OF-FLAT

Out-of-flat is a fault observed when a wheel of a gear train or a balance wheel does not rotate in a plane perfectly perpendicular to its axis of rotation. Flatness (and any out-of-flat condition) can be checked by rotating the wheel between the jaws of a figure-of-eight calliper.
