The period is the time required for the regulating organ to complete one full oscillation.

The period is the reciprocal of the frequency:

If the frequency increases → the period decreases
If the frequency decreases → the period increases

For example, for a balance wheel oscillating at:

4 Hz (28,800 v/h)
→

$T = 0.25$

T=0.25 seconds

3 Hz (21,600 v/h)
→

$T = 0.333$

T=0.333 seconds
