PROFESSIONAL TESTIMONIALS AND NEW TECHNICAL CONTENT ON HOROPEDIA.ORG

To mark the start of 2026, the online encyclopaedia Horopedia.org is expanding with new content designed to transmit, document and promote watchmaking culture. A new section dedicated to professional testimonials has been launched, alongside an original 3D-animated video that deepens the understanding of basic mechanical principles. Two complementary updates, serving learning and inspiration.

A new “Testimonials” section giving a voice to those who shape watchmaking: interview with a watch designer

Horopedia continues its mission of knowledge transmission with the launch of a new section entitled Testimonials, accessible via the Training & Professions menu. This section brings together video interviews with watchmaking professionals from diverse backgrounds, reflecting the richness of the horological ecosystem.

Through their personal stories, they share their training, day-to-day professional realities, and their vision of watchmaking. These testimonials highlight the passion, commitment and expertise that keep this art alive — inspiring journeys for future generations.

First testimonial: Emmanuel Gueit, watch designer

The first video published in this new section is dedicated to Emmanuel Gueit, watch designer. The son of Jean-Claude Gueit, one of the founding figures of contemporary watch design, Emmanuel developed an early sensitivity to the way watches combine art and precision.

In this interview, he reflects on his career path, his approach to the profession and his relationship with design. More a visionary than a draftsman, he is primarily fascinated by the expression of hours, minutes and seconds, and by the power of design to give a strong identity to a complex object. A rich and inspiring testimonial that sheds light on a profession that remains little known.

« The first and most important thing is talent. You either have it or you don’t. That’s my view. I don’t think talent can be learned. […] You have to be visionary, and above all observant, but also have your own ideas and be able to put them on a small wrist. […] It’s like designing a car in miniature that you wear on your wrist. It’s just as complex as a car. »

A new 3D-animated video on the motor organ

Another new feature this season is the release of an educational video dedicated to the motor organ, within the Basic Mechanical Principles section.

Positioned at the beginning of the movement’s kinematic chain, the motor organ plays a fundamental role: storing the energy required for the movement to function and releasing it gradually.

Entirely produced using 3D animations, this video offers a clear and visual understanding of how this essential organ works. It focuses in particular on the barrel, a type of motor organ used in certain clocks and small pendulums, as well as in all mechanical pocket and wristwatches.

This new content fully reflects Horopedia’s educational approach: making complex technical concepts accessible through precise visual tools, suitable for all levels of knowledge.

ABOUT HOROPEDIA

Horopedia Foundation was established in February 2023 and given the status of public interest. The Foundation Council is composed of Philippe Dufour (President), Dr. Helmut Crott, André Colard, and Marc André Deschoux.

The Foundation governs Horopedia.org, the first online video encyclopedia on watchmaking. The platform was launched in 2022 and quickly gathered unanimous support within the community.

To date, over 100 multilingual documentary films on museums, watchmaking schools, watch tools and components, and the mechanical principles behind their work can be found on Horopedia.org. To enhance its educational mission, the platform also incorporates visual pedagogic materials to facilitate a better understanding of the provided information. The website features nearly 1000 pages with detailed definitions of watchmaking terms and historical anecdotes about significant horological inventions.

Horopedia.org meticulously covers all facets of the fascinating horological industry in French, English, and German. It offers detailed definitions of tools and complications, 3D images of movements, and thorough video explanations of component production, their history, and functions in a watch. A dedicated section of the website lists horological institutions, including schools and museums in Switzerland and worldwide.

More recently, the Foundation unveiled its ambitious project: the Maison des Arts & de la Culture Horlogère (MACH). More than just a museum, the MACH will be a dynamic venue for exhibitions, knowledge-sharing and dialogue around the art of watchmaking. Located in the heart of the Quartier des Banques, this 1,250 m² house will span four floors, offering didactic, thematic and chronological exhibitions, complemented by a space dedicated to temporary exhibitions. Visitors will also be able to enjoy a boutique, an auditorium and a variety of interactive areas designed to spark curiosity and encourage discovery. Open and vibrant, the MACH is intended to become the crossroads of watchmaking in Geneva.
