CONICAL PIVOTS

Conical pivots have a cone in their first half which can be compared to the shape of a trumpet. The purpose of this cone is to strengthen the pivot against breakage. A detail that was all the more important when antichocs did not yet exist or were rarely used. However, even today, almost all pivots with a diameter of less than 0.15 mm are conical. The endshake of a wheel equipped with conical pivots is done on the tips of the two pivots. This means that a total of four rubies are required, unlike cylindrical pivots where two rubies or bearings are sufficient.
