DRIVING

Said of a gear (a wheel, a pinion, or a second wheel) that drives the next gear in a kinematic chain. In a multiplicative train, the wheel is the driving element, and the pinion of the following wheel is the driven element. In a reducing train, the driving pinion drives the driven wheel of the next gear assembly.
