THREE YEARS OF KNOWLEDGE TRANSMISSION, EDUCATION AND COMMITMENT TO WATCHMAKING CULTURE
Founded in February 2023, the Horopedia Foundation is celebrating three years of existence. Three years marked by the remarkable growth of its online encyclopaedia, the development of strong collaborations with Swiss watchmaking schools, and the emergence of a major new project: the Maison des Arts et de la Culture Horlogère (MACH).
Three years of continuous growth for the Horopedia encyclopaedia
Since its creation, Horopedia has pursued a clear mission: to transmit, document and promote watchmaking culture through a freely accessible online encyclopaedia. Three years on, the figures reflect the growing interest in this unique educational resource.
According to data from the Infomaniak server hosting horopedia.org, website traffic has experienced a striking increase. In 2025, Horopedia.org reached a major milestone, with more than 700,000 unique visitors and over 2 million pages viewed, more than doubling in just one year. These figures illustrate the encyclopaedia’s growing impact and confirm the relevance of its educational approach, aimed at students, professionals, enthusiasts and the wider curious public.
A dynamic driven by collaboration and a clear vision
“Three years after its creation, Horopedia’s encyclopaedic work has gained real momentum. We are particularly pleased with the development of meaningful collaborations with Swiss watchmaking schools, made possible by a dedicated and passionate team.”
These collaborations strengthen Horopedia’s position at the heart of the watchmaking ecosystem and actively contribute to the transmission of knowledge and professional expertise.
The MACH: a new pillar for the Horopedia Foundation
Building on this momentum, the Horopedia Foundation has embarked on its next major mission: the creation of the Maison des Arts et de la Culture Horlogère (MACH). Located in the centre of Geneva, the MACH aims to become a reference venue dedicated to watchmaking know-how, its transmission and its cultural significance.
This future educational and cultural space will embody, in the physical world, what the Horopedia encyclopaedia already achieves online. Together, these two pillars now structure the Foundation’s work, allowing it to celebrate its third anniversary with a strengthened, forward-looking vision.
A fourth year focused on sharing and expansion
The year ahead promises to be rich, intense and inspiring. New publications, educational projects, progress on the MACH and the development of new content formats will shape this fourth year of activity.
To stay informed about upcoming announcements and follow the evolution of Horopedia’s projects, we invite you to join us on our social media channels: Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, as well as TikTok, launched at the beginning of this year.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supports Horopedia and shares this vision in the service of watchmaking as a common good. The journey is only just beginning.

ABOUT HOROPEDIA
Horopedia Foundation was established in February 2023 and given the status of public interest. The Foundation Council is composed of Philippe Dufour (President), Dr. Helmut Crott, André Colard, and Marc André Deschoux.
The Foundation governs Horopedia.org, the first online video encyclopedia on watchmaking. The platform was launched in 2022 and quickly gathered unanimous support within the community.
To date, over 100 multilingual documentary films on museums, watchmaking schools, watch tools and components, and the mechanical principles behind their work can be found on Horopedia.org. To enhance its educational mission, the platform also incorporates visual pedagogic materials to facilitate a better understanding of the provided information. The website features nearly 1000 pages with detailed definitions of watchmaking terms and historical anecdotes about significant horological inventions.
Horopedia.org meticulously covers all facets of the fascinating horological industry in French, English, and German. It offers detailed definitions of tools and complications, 3D images of movements, and thorough video explanations of component production, their history, and functions in a watch. A dedicated section of the website lists horological institutions, including schools and museums in Switzerland and worldwide.
More recently, the Foundation unveiled its ambitious project: the Maison des Arts & de la Culture Horlogère (MACH). More than just a museum, the MACH will be a dynamic venue for exhibitions, knowledge-sharing and dialogue around the art of watchmaking. Located in the heart of the Quartier des Banques, this 1,250 m² house will span four floors, offering didactic, thematic and chronological exhibitions, complemented by a space dedicated to temporary exhibitions. Visitors will also be able to enjoy a boutique, an auditorium and a variety of interactive areas designed to spark curiosity and encourage discovery. Open and vibrant, the MACH is intended to become the crossroads of watchmaking in Geneva.
