IMPULSE

The action of a force that pushes a stationary component to set it in motion. For example, the tooth of the escape wheel transmits its impulse to the lever by bearing on the latter’s impulse face. Likewise, the fork of the lever transmits its impulse to the balance wheel via the impulse pin on the roller.
