TIMELAB Foundation

The Geneva Laboratory of Horology and Microtechnology Foundation, better known as the TIMELAB Foundation, is a neutral and independent institution dedicated to promoting, developing and enhancing the reputation of Swiss horology. It tests, measures, performs Testing and certifies timepieces through three complementary activities: the Geneva Seal, the Geneva Chronometric Observatory, and the Horology and Microtechnology Laboratory.

Origin and history

Founded in 2008, TIMELAB is the heir to a long horological tradition. The Foundation took over the responsibilities of theGeneva School of Horology, which housed the Geneva Seal since 1886. It also manages the Geneva Chronometric Observatory, which is part of Geneva’s great tradition of Time measurement, initiated by the Geneva Astronomical Observatory founded in 1772.

Alongside its certification missions, TIMELAB acts as a Bridge between the academic world and the industrial sector. It contributes to the development of professional training, applied research and technical innovation, by collaborating with technical schools, horology schools and universities.

Certifications issued

The TIMELAB Foundation issues 3 certifications of excellence:

• 1/ The Geneva Seal has guaranteed since 1886 the provenance, craftsmanship and performance of Geneva watches.
• 2/ Official chronometer certification evaluates the precision of watches according to the international ISO 3159 standard.
• 3/ The OC+ label certifies the precision and reliability of Swiss watches according to standards that go beyond the ISO 3159 standard.

With its certifications, its innovation research and its training initiatives, the TIMELAB Foundation remains a central player in the field of high-precision watchmaking.
