FIGURE-OF-EIGHT CALLIPER
The figure-of-eight calliper is a tool used to check the flatness (out-of-flat) and roundness (out-of-round) of a gear or a balance. The component to be tested is placed pivot-to-pivot between the two adjustable jaws of the figure-of-eight calliper, ensuring it can rotate freely. By spinning the mobile (typically using a dust blower), any deviations in flatness or roundness can be visually detected. Some figure-of-eight callipers are fitted with an adjustable tab that serves as a reference index to aid in inspection.
