MILLING

Milling is a machining operation involving material removal performed using a Milling cutter — a rotary tool fitted with several cutting edges — and, by extension, its result. Unlike turning, where the workpiece rotates, here it is the tool that is driven by the cutting Movement, while the workpiece moves to present the surfaces to be machined. Milling makes it possible to create flat surfaces, shoulders, grooves, gear teeth, or complex shapes. It can be carried out using hand tools (chuck, straight drill holder) or, most often, on machines: Milling machine, Lathe equipped, Drill suitable machine or CNC machining center. In watchmaking, milling is used in the manufacture of bridges, plates, and many components, where dimensional accuracy and surface finish quality are crucial. The choice of milling cutter, speed, and feed rate determines the result.
