EXTRACTOR

An Extractor is a tool designed to remove, without damage, a part that has been fitted, driven in, or press-fitted. In horology, where components are tiny and fragile, controlled extraction prevents bending an Axis, breaking a pivot, or scratching a surface. Several types exist: the hand Extractor (paired levers, or “hand lifter”, slid under the hands to lift them vertically while protecting the Dial) ; jewel, stem, pin, or tenon Extractors; or else staking tools and tools for To drive in fitted with extraction accessories. The common principle consists of applying a progressive, straight, and centered force, so as not to jam or deform the part. Extraction is the reverse operation of fitting or driving in. A good Extractor ensures that the force is aligned with the Axis of the part and distributes the grip so as not to mark the seats. These tools are part of the basic equipment of the Horologist (watchmaker), alongside Tweezers, Screwdrivers and staking tools.
