MEASURING INSTRUMENTS
In watchmaking, precision is essential, making measuring instruments indispensable throughout the manufacturing and assembly process. Dimensional measurements ensure the accuracy of components and their interactions. Time measurement relies on chronometers and test benches to evaluate the regularity and accuracy of the movement. Torque control is used to check the tension of springs or fastening elements (screws, hand pressing, etc.). Surface condition, crucial for the proper functioning of moving parts, is examined using profilometers that detect the degree of surface finishing. Finally, water resistance is tested with air or water pressure equipment, ensuring the watches’ resistance to water and dust—vital conditions for their durability and reliability. Each measurement thus contributes to the pursuit of watchmaking excellence.
DIMENSIONAL MEASUREMENTS
THE METAL RULER
The metal ruler is a measuring tool used to quickly take measurements of watch parts and components.
THE CALIPER
The caliper is a measuring instrument that allows for quickly taking external, internal, and depth measurements with a precision usually reaching 0.01 mm.
THE MICROMETER AND THE DIAL GAUGE
The micrometer and the dial gauge are measuring instruments offering precision between 0.01 mm and 0.001 mm.
GAUGES
Gauges are standard reference pieces used to measure thicknesses, clearances, and external or internal diameters with precision.
THE PROFILE PROJECTOR
The profile projector is a precision optical instrument designed for inspecting and measuring the contours of mechanical parts.
TIME MEASUREMENTS
THE TIMEGRAPHER
This device measures the instantaneous rate (accuracy) of watches and provides additional information such as frequency, amplitude, and reference points. It also helps diagnose many issues.
THE QUARTZ MOVEMENT TESTER
The quartz movement tester is an instrument used to check the operation and accuracy of quartz movements.
TORQUE MEASUREMENTS
THE TORQUE WRENCH
The torque wrench is a measuring instrument used to assess the resistance to twisting and/or the torque of various components.
ROUGHNESS MEASUREMENTS
THE SURFACE ROUGHNESS TESTER
The surface roughness tester is a measuring device used to evaluate the roughness and quality of surface finishes.
SEALING MEASUREMENTS AND INSPECTIONS
WATER RESISTANCE TESTING DEVICES
Sealing testing devices are used to verify the water resistance of watches under various pressures. In some cases, they help determine the source of a leak.
