DIAMOND POLISHING

Diamond polishing is a finishing operation that consists of creating a shiny Chamfer, “as if diamond-cut”, on the edge of a part, using diamond tools. By very finely cutting the Metal, the tool (Milling cutter, grinding wheel or diamond point) produces a facet of remarkable flatness and brilliance, without going through a long Polishing manual process. In particular, the flanks and edges of External parts (case, dial, hands) components are diamond polished (Index (hour marker), hands, elements of the Dial, links) as well as certain elements of Movement, to achieve a clean and regular mirror effect. Diamond polishing differs from traditional Beveling / Angling performed by hand: it is faster, very regular and well suited to series production, but gives a more “mechanical” result, whereas hand beveling remains the benchmark for the very high end. The quality of diamond polishing depends on the sharpening of the tool, the speed and the feed rate: good diamond polishing leaves neither streaks nor burns. It is a key technique in modern watchmaking Decoration, at the crossroads of machining and finishing.
