LIFT

The lift refers, in theEscapement, to each of the two pallet stones inRuby / Jewel synthetic set into the arms of thePallets (lever), which ensure the interaction between theEscape wheel and theBalance. A distinction is made between the Entry lift, which is the first to receive the tooth of the escape wheel, and the exit lift. Each lift has two functional faces: the resting plane, slightly inclined at an unlocking (drop angle) that ensures the tooth is held at rest between twoOscillations, and the impulse plane, through which the tooth, by sliding, transmits its energy to the balance via thefork and the double roller. This function should not be confused with the safety device of the Escapement, which prevents any accidental Release of the Pallets (lever) and relies on a separate mechanism. The Lift angle, generally between 40° and 52° depending on the caliber, determines together with the Amplitude the amount of energy transmitted at each Vibration. The geometry of the Lifts, the quality of their Polished finish and the thickness of the Oil applied to their active faces are crucial for the precision and longevity of the mechanical Movement.
