LUG WIDTH

The lug width is the distance measured between the inner faces of the two lugs of a Case watch, meaning the space available to house the Bracelet / Strap. Expressed in millimeters, it is one of the fundamental measurements of the External parts (case, dial, hands), as it determines both the Length of the spring bars (or pins) that secure the strap and its width. The most common values generally range from 18 to 22 mm for men’s watches, with smaller dimensions found on women’s models. A standardized lug width facilitates Interchangeability straps, whereas an atypical value requires a custom-made strap. The choice of this measurement is as much a technical matter as an aesthetic one: it must ensure proportion between the case and the strap, guarantee wrist comfort, and allow secure attachment. Lug width is therefore a key piece of data both when designing a watch and when replacing a strap.
