THE PIERCING SAW

The piercing saw (jeweler’s saw) is a cutting tool with a thin, tensioned blade, used in watchmaking and jewelry making to make precise cuts in thin materials: Brass, Steel, German silver, Gold, Silver. It consists of a U-shaped metal bow, whose spacing is adjustable to accommodate blades of varying lengths, and a clamping system with a wing screw or thumbwheel allowing the blade to be firmly tensioned between its two jaws. The blades, made of carbon steel, come in several numbers depending on their thickness and tooth pattern, from the finest, suited to delicate cuts, to the widest, for thicker materials.
